前言 Preface
I am 30 in 2012, stepping into a stable and more mature phase of life. Among the 14 international top level events, I have cruised through 11 finals and 3 semifinals. I have won the championship 7 times, and was a runner-up in the other 4 times.
On 21st August 2008, I was ranked as World no.1 badminton men’s singles player. I have maintained the top ranking which has continued since 2008, for 172 weeks andstill counting.
In order to be the world no.1, I had to wake up everyday at 5am to train. Running, game techniques and footwork practices, physical training etc. It is a result that I have gained by working hard every day.
Looking back on my past, it was an ordinary beginning.
I have set many records in the past. These brilliant records were the outcome of my perseverance in challenging my body and mind continuously to the limit. I can never lose sight of my self discipline. It is how I have managed to set those records, by working hard and train everyday. Although sometimes I have failed, but in my mind, I clearly understand that failure actually makes me stronger.
Losing is winning. People claim that I fear my opponents. In fact, a winner always fears being defeated or to be surpassed. As long as we face our failures with the right mindset and attitude, we will still be on the right path to success.
Of course, this is not the end of my story. Whether I can meet everyone’s expectation to win the Olympic Games is, as a matter of fact, not the most important thing. What I want to tell my readers is what lies behind all the victories and failures – a spirit that we never stop challenging and competing with ourselves. I would like to share with you how positive thinking can turn a loser into a winner, a spirit of “Dare to Be a Champion”. I hope I can inspire my friends, especially those who are young, that no matter what you do, hold on to your dreams. You will always be facing and overcoming the difficult challenges in life, most importantly, you should bravely recover when you fall.
Since I was born, my parents had given everything they had to raise the three of my siblings and me. My father was the key person of influence before I embarked on this career; my mother has shown her love by supporting silently and my siblings love me too. My family has always been the greatest motivation in the pursuit of my dream.
I have examined my past in this book, from adolescence to maturity. I have transformed from a young boy, into a man who is now mature and certain of my goals. I am very grateful to everyone around me, you and your words, be it encouragements or criticisms, are what takes me to where I am now. Our prime minister and his lady, thank you for your support and care. You are absolutely the most important “Super Fans”! To all the supporters in Malaysia, China and all around the world, please forgive me for falling short of your expectation at times. I promise I will never give up, I will continueto paint the rest of my life with wonderful and exciting stories.
I am Lee Chong Wei. My story goes on...
